Testimonials

In February 2010 we donated the puppy pictured below to a not for profit group named PawsGivingIndependence. This puppy will go through several months of training before it we become a service dog in the home of a person who has a disability/disabilities.  Read the e-mails below the picture that we received from the co-founders of this organization!!I Frank,I put her crate in my room last night in case she cried.  She did, and my daughter's black lab trainee, who sleeps on my floor, heard her cry and stayed by her cage all night.  When he tried to leave she started crying again and he came back.  She has not left his side all day.  They look so funny together, he is 50 pounds.  She just snuggles up next to him and he lets her.  She may have to stay here to train, he will miss her when she goes to her foster home.

Bradley donates space for us to train on Monday nights.  We meet at the Markin Center from 6-8.  The 6-7 class is for just the beginner dogs.  It will be the class she goes to when she is ready to train.  At 7 the dogs who have been training longer and are either placed or getting ready to be placed train.  So you would get to meet some of the people actually getting the dogs.  We have some new people who will start training in a few weeks.  Two of our dogs are poodles.  Drew has muscular dystrophy and his brother has allergies, so he needed a poodle.  Naomi is a traumatic brain injury from a beating by her stepfather 7 years ago.  Her wonderful adoptive mom has allergies and they needed a poodle.  We have a family with allergies who needs a hearing dog, which might be perfect for this dog.  We have also had inquiries about seizure dogs, and are investigating how to do that.
Michelle does the training and I work with the kids and families.  Being teachers you and I know how tough it is for these kids.  Class gives them a place to come and be with other kids and do something they enjoy.  Michelle was diagnosed at 3 with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and has had 20 years of physical therapy and medications.  She is in her first year of grad school to become a pediatric physical therapist.  Her disability isn't anywhere near as severe as what these families are dealing with, but I know what it is like to navigate the schools and doctors.
Thank you again for your wonderful donation.  We are all volunteers and just have to raise money for the cost of the dogs and their care.  We couldn't do this without the generosity of the Peoria community.  I really don't think we could have done this anywhere else.  We are able to place these dogs free of charge because of people like you.  Thank your wife for passing on my original e-mail.  We look forward to showing you what we do.
Have a great week.
Donna

Donna and Michelle,
I am glad that she is doing so well.  She loves other puppies and people and is probably in puppy heaven at your house!  Feel free to call anytime, as you are not bothering me.
I will put something on my website and hope that you will get some donations out of it.  Keep me posted on her, and send pictures so that I can post them to my website as well.  I will stop by sometime when you have training for the pups.  I might even do it a week from tomorrow as I do not have school because of President's Day.
I have never donated a pup to a non-profit group, but was very impressed with your mission and goal.  Who wouldn't be?
Anyway, if you have a specific need of a poodle puppy because you need a hyperallergic puppy, just let me know!
Thanks,
Frank

Frank,
I know you have company, so I don't want to call.  I just want to thank you so much for donating a puppy to Paws Giving Independence.  She is absolutely wonderful.  I don't have any make up left on because she has been licking my face all day.  My dog is happy to have a smaller play mate and the dog Michelle is training is here and all three are playing together.  She doesn't seem to know she is the little one.  She keeps grabbing his bone from him.  I am sure she is used to other little dogs, but she is not at all afraid of Payton.
I can't wait for our service dog kids to meet her.  Naomi, who has the grey poodle likes to ride the puppies around in her chair at class, so she will be very happy.  We haven't named her yet, we like the kids to help us.  She will change someone's life.  These dogs make such a difference for the people who receive them.  They like the fact that people talk to them when they are out with their dogs and this little beauty will definately grab attention.  These kids have so much to deal with and they really love their dogs.
You are welcome to come and watch class anytime.  Give me a call and I can give you directions.  You are also welcome to say on your website you have a dog training with us to become a service dog.  I will also pass your name on to anyone who might be looking to buy a poodle.  We aren't used to getting dogs this well socialized and healthy.  We will keep you updated and let you know who she is finally placed with.  I promise we will take good care of her.
Thank you again so much,
Donna and Michelle

Pictured above is Toby, a miniature red male poodle puppy sold to Kent and family from Ohio.  They drove to Illinois and stayed in hotel overnight just to pick him up!  Below is a recent e-mail Kent sent!

Season's Greetings,
I just wanted to send you an update on the miniature poodle pup that we picked up from you a few months ago.  We named him Toby, and he is now 4.5 months old.   He has responded extremely well to lure/reward training, and he was the undisputed star of his puppy class held at the OSU vet school.  The instructor commented that Toby was her favorite poodle of all time!

I'm so glad that his first few weeks were spent in the company of your family, because he is well socialized and just loves to meet new people and other dogs.  He's such a smart little guy, and people are just drawn to him wherever we go...    He is everything and more we had hoped for as a new addition to our empty nest.

Attached is a picture of Toby at 8 weeks (the day after we picked him up).  The second picture was taken yesterday (age=4.5 months).

Merry Christmas and Best Regards,

Kent, Emmy, and Toby

Hi,
I have been intending to send you a note about my Alika.
He is absolutely adorable and I just love him! He has finished his Puppy PreSchool and Puppy Grade School and we just started Introduction to Agility, just for fun.  He is so agile and bold I thought it would be a good fit for him.  He does everything, jumps, leaps, climbs and learns his moves very quickly.
My neighbors have nicknamed him The Prancing Prince, because he really prances.  Yesterday we were at the Garden Center in Home Depot and Petsmart before his school and literally three different people at three different times commented on his prancing.  He is such a joyful happy puppy (eight months old now), he is very social and loves people and dogs alike. I have had so many people say how cute he is, he has got such an adorable little face!  I take him all over the city, now that he has had a taste of the world, he wants to be out in the streets all the time, going, seeing and doing.
Here are a couple of pictures, his hair was long in one of them, he looks a little chubby because of it, but he is actually very lean and slender with long legs. We are working on growing a tail, now it is so cute it looks like a little curly black cotton ball.
Best regards,
Sharon & Alika, Chicago

Pictured above is Laffy, a red toy poodle sold to Ashley from Texas!  Below is her e-mail to our family!

I just wanted to send you an updated picture of Laffy.  As you can see he is getting pretty big.  He hasn't been weighed in a while, so I don't know exactly how big he is.

He is doing great.  Yesterday he had a playdate with a friend of ours who has a chocolate toy poodle who is a few months older than him.  He had so much fun!  My husband and I can't imagine our life without him.  He is such a sweet, playful dog.  He loves people and he gets so excited when he sees children.  I guess that is a product of being raised by all of yours!

We are really looking forward to our first Christmas with him.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!!

Ashley

Pictured above is Kiwi (teacup chocolate female poodle puppy) sold to Amy from Chicago, Illinois

I could not be happier with my sweet little tea cup chocolate toy poodle puppy.  She is so small, good and very well adjusted.  I think that coming from such a loving family was very helpful in this dogie's temperament and development.  She is so smart, already using the training pads at 9 weeks.  She is very playful and very healthy.  She is one pound of sweet delight.  She has brought so much joy into my life and Chad's.  Poodles with Principal certainly lives up to their name.  I would recommend them to my friends and family in a heart beat.

Very Sincerely,
Amy
Bella is a bundle of fun!  She has been groomed a couple of times now and she is turning out to be a gray poodle!!  She's adorable!
